Death Takes John S. Bush – Daily
Olympian – April 22, 1947
John S. Bush, born eighty-four years ago on Mound Prairie, Thurston County,
died in the Bush Prairie home in which he had lived since 1869,
He was the last surviving child of William O. and Mandana Smith Bush who
settled on Bush Prairie in 1844 and gave it its name.
Born Nov. 22, 1862, Mr. Bush has been a farm resident of this county all
his life. In 1886, he married Christina F. Gaston, who died here in
1920.
Mr. Bush was a member of the Washington Pioneer Society and was
active in community affairs.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. F. L. Hackett, Seattle; Belle Bush,
Olympia; Mrs. LeRoy West. Bush Prairie; Mrs. LeRoy Sheldon, Shelton.
There are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held in Mills and Mills chapel this Wednesday,
starting at three o’clock. The Reverend Dwight C. Smith, pastor of
United Churches, will preside. Burial will take place in IOOF Cemetery.
